Day 10: How did you get started?

I was thinking yesterday about how the domino effect works in life. One small thing kicks off a string of others until you end up in a new and wonderful place. Not always of course, there are certainly bad dominoes that get knocked over, but for the purposes of this post we are going to a happy place...right here on Blogger. So how did I get here? Easy...
A very good friend of mine from our Army time in Germany named Stacy kept e-mailing me telling me to get on MySpace. I was very leery and hard to convince, but I really wanted to see pics of her kids and they were back in Germany and I wanted to see what they were up to so I relented and got myself a MySpace page. Then I got addicted. I was changing my layout constantly and adding playlists and driving my husband to drink over how much time I spent on there. I found a few people but it was hard to find many if I didn't know their married names. One of the people I found was a guy I graduated from high school with named Ryan.
Ryan is the (much)younger brother of my Aunt Mary's husband. So Ryan and I liked to joke that he was my step-uncle-in-law. So I friend requested him and after a while he got in touch and told me that he didn't really spend much time on MySpace, but he and his wife were both on Facebook. He also told me that his wife Jana (who I was friends with in high school as well) had a blog on livejournal.com so I promptly found the blog and fell in love with it!! I had done a little blogging on MySpace so I started my own blog on livejournal but admittedly did not post very much. Ryan and Jana both mentioned how many former classmates we had on Facebook so I opened myself a page on there. And promptly got addicted.
Much easier searching for girls you used to know since you didn't need a married name. I have found people we knew in the Army, even childhood friends from California. Not to mention relatives who live far away from me. It's just the best way to keep in touch with the ones you love. One day my neighbor (and FB friend) Misty sent out an e-mail that she was going to start a blog on blogspot. So I did too. Can you tell I'm kind of a copycat when I hear a good idea? Anyhoo, after a while and not many posts, Jana posted a blog on livejournal that she was moving to blogspot. In the meantime I had found many other FB friends had blogs here too.
I started to blog in earnest not too long ago. I have a list of ideas that pop in my head and then there are the Menu Monday, Wordless Wednesday and Fun Fact Friday blogs when I don't have any other ideas. I even went back to MySpace and copied all those old blogs so I could update them for future use. Then I closed my MySpace page.
So now I am hooked not only on blogging my own boring life, but also on reading other blogs. I still love Jana's blog which you can find on my blogroll under Dress up and Diaper Changes. I have many, many other blogs on my blogroll. Check them all out and it just might make you wonder how they got their start. How did you get yours?

  2. Bandwagon or not, I think it's fun finding how people started blogging.

I actually started because of Semi-desperate Housewife. She's a friend of mine from church (and we worked together for a short while). Anyway, I was reading her blog and really enjoying it. Then I started reading Swistle's blog. Then I thought why not start my own. It's been a great place to post things, vent, and connect with other women.

    Keep up the good work.
