Raley's Choice

As a 6th grader, where we live, you have to choose between band and choir as your elective. They have you make the choice near the end of 5th grade. Raley had long ago decided that he would choose band because, well, he's a boy and boys don't do choir! Anyhoo, just as Jayme and I had resigned ourselves to potentially paying hundreds of dollars for an instrument next fall, the school threw a little curve. For the first time ever, they added the third choice of ART.
Raley struggled for a few days, but I think it was more he thought we wanted him to take band. Also, if you EVER want to be in band, you have to start in 6th grade here. *coughRIDICULOUScough* But in the end he picked art. Now we wait. We wait to see if the teacher is cool, if the class is more drawing or painting or basics or what. It's a whole new world for me since I am not artistic at all. But neither am I musical so band would have been as well. In the meantime I am THRILLED! Raley loves to draw and he's really good at it! He can look at a picture and draw it on paper from there. Here are a couple more recent examples of his abilities
He drew this General Grievous from a picture in the Star Wars The Clone Wars Character Encyclopedia. He slightly changed the arms from the original. He liked the crossed light-saber stance better. Then there's this one I found

I almost threw this one away because it's drawn on the back of a label from a bottle of water. I think he did this one from memory with no picture. Now this may be a mother's love talking, but I think it's pretty darn good! I'm looking forward to a lot more cool pictures from my artist-in-residence.
