We are back from our very fun Spring Break 2011 trip through the Texas Hill Country! We had a fabulous time with only one minor catastrophe. I have written up daily blogs for those of you who wish to get the full experience, and my Facebook friends can see all the pictures in my Spring Break 2011 album. For those of you who don’t want the play-by-play but would like to know an overview of what we did, here goes:
Day One-We left home for Meridian State Park and experienced our only catastrophe, a blow-out on a trailer tire. After swapping out for the spare and stopping off to get the tire repaired, we made it to Meridian and had a nice evening there.
Day Two-It got a little cold overnight but it didn’t keep us from hiking the park and discovering a buzzard roosting spot, and a really nice scenic overlook.
Day Three-On our way to Pedernales Falls State Park we dropped by Longhorn Cavern for a little spelunking. This was a wonderful experience that I highly recommend for everyone who can hike 1 ½ miles underground at a fairly quick pace without needing to have a restroom break.
Day Four-Pedernales State Park fun and a trip to town for dinner at “The Chrome Cactus” and shopping at the Super S Foods with Ace Hardware.
Day Five-Hiked down to the Pedernales Falls and later to the swimming area for some very invigorating (COLD!) water therapy.
Day Six-We headed back into town for a stop at the laundromat and then continued out of town and through Fredericksburg to hike up Enchanted Rock. Breathtaking!
Day Seven-Left Pedernales Falls and headed further south to San Antonio. We had a lovely and long-awaited reunion with very dear friends from our Army days. It had been seven years since we’d seen them but it felt like it hadn’t been seven days. I love friendships like this!
Day Eight-We went downtown to the Alamo for some Texas history and then strolled along the Riverwalk before returning to our friends’ house for a delicious steak dinner.
Days Nine and Ten-Left San Antonio behind as we headed back for the pine forests of home. One night stopover at our land to drop off the trailer and spend some time with Grannie and Pop before heading home to laundry, shopping, work, school and our chaotic life. Can I have a couple days vacation to recover from our vacation? Pretty please?
