Spring Break 2011-Day One

We picked the boys up from school at noon and by 1:30 we were heading west on I-20 toward Dallas. We had a route mapped out and Raley was in charge of navigation. Everything was going fairly well and then---Catastrophe #1.


We had a blowout on one of the trailer tires about 30 miles from home. Luckily it was on the passenger side so we were able to safely change it out with the spare we carry. No so luckily, it did some minor damage to the wheel well area of the trailer. Hopefully that won’t cost too much to repair but we called our insurance company to report it in any case. We also called around and found a Discount Tire Company on our route.

I would like to pause in the story for a moment to tell you how awesome Discount Tire is! We pay $25 extra per tire to have a Lifetime Guarantee/Insurance on each tire on all of our vehicles. All we had to do after our blowout was find a Discount Tire, go in, tell them what happened and they came out took off the spare, replaced the blown tire with a new one, inspected the rest of the tires, and sent us on our merry way. We paid a grand total of $18 for the continued insurance on the new tire.

On the road again! It took us another hour and a half to get to our first destination, Meridian State Park, located near the town of Meridian, Texas which got its name due to its location on the 9th meridian. It is said that this longitudinal line is the dividing line between the prairies of the eastern US and the plains of the western US. We got settled into our camping spot and Jayme started a fire to grill hamburgers on. We ate them with some pasta salad I made at home before we left. Bellies full, we made up our beds and hit the hay.
