We woke up and got to work packing and loading the trailer. We were able to take it easy and not rush too much since we didn’t really have anywhere to be until about 5:30 that afternoon. As it was we left Pedernales Falls around 10:30 and headed south to San Antonio. We had a very uneventful trip and found our KOA Kampground fairly easily, even though we missed one of our turns. Luckily we could take the next turn and wind our way back to where we should have been. If you are ever looking for a place to stay in San Antonio, check out the KOA! It’s enormous for one thing. We were directed to our reserved spot and quickly set up the trailer. Then we headed for the heated swimming pool. It wasn’t exactly bath temperature but it was much warmer than the Pedernales River had been.
After showering we took a walk around and noticed license plates from all over the country and even a few from Canada. Most of the “foreign” plates had the pens set up out front for dogs. We guessed there must have been a dog show in San Antonio by the caliber and quality of dogs we saw walking around the park. We also noticed a hawk nest in a tree not too far from our parking post. While we watched, the male flew off to hunt and the female tended to the babies underneath her. Since we finally had a little Wi-Fi and cell coverage, we browsed the net some and I called my parents. My call from atop Enchanted Rock had been too windy for them to understand much but they got the gist of it.
Finally we got the text we had been waiting for! Matt and Ann were home from work and ready for our invasion. We headed over to the house and only missed one turn. We saw it but it was too late to stop and turn without getting rear-ended. So we found a way back around and found their house with no problems. Well unless you count slightly missing the driveway with the driver’s side front tire and crashing down into a ditch. No damage done except to Jayme’s pride. Matt was outside and saw the whole thing. It was just the first of many laughs to be had with our old friends. We hadn’t seen them in person in over 7 years but it was as if not a day had passed. Old stories, new stories, food, drinks and laughter were the main ingredients of the evening. We headed back to the trailer just before midnight to rest up for round two the next evening.
