One of the perks to subbing for the same class every Wednesday is that I occasionally am there when something special happens. Such was the case last week when a visiting author came to the school.
Since my older kids are boys, I don’t know much about any of the more girl-oriented book series. Pattie is a little young for them just now. No Fancy Nancy, no Pinkalicious and no Piper Reed...yet!
Kimberly Willis Holt writes the Piper Reed series and she is a delightful person! She has written other books as well but this series speaks to me a little louder. You see, Piper’s dad is a Chief in the US Navy. So was my dad! I can’t wait to get these books and read them.
The day she came to the school we read another of Kimberly’s books to our classes. It was adorable! It’s called The Adventures of Granny Clearwater and Little Critter. It all about a family on the trail west in a covered wagon and the grandmother and youngest get bounced out of the wagon and have to try to meet up with the family. Many zany adventures ensue and the illustrations are hilarious!
I really enjoy my Wednesday’s with my sweet 2nd graders and things like this just make it all the sweeter.

I've heard of (and read) the Pinkalicious and Fancy Nancy books, but not Piper Reed. I'll have to check those out.
