When I was 17 years, 1 month and 16 days old, I went on a date with this guy named Jayme. We went to the movies and saw Demolition Man starring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes. We have been together ever since. On December 29, 2010, it had been 17 years, 1 month and 16 days since that first date. I have now spent more of my life with Jayme than without him.
Setting aside the fact that I actually counted and calculated this, I think it's a pretty cool milestone. We have, for all intents and purposes, grown up together (because let's face it, who's "grown up" at 17 or 18?). We have had more firsts together than apart. We have evolved our relationship into a true partnership. That's not to say we are perfect, or that we never fight. We are pretty good at disagreeing since we are very different in many respects. What we really excel at is making up! We give and take. We complete each other.
2010 had its share of challenges for us and we have met them head on. We did what was necessary to get through it and now we are reaping the benefits. I am not trying to brag, but if I were...I would have a REALLY good reason. My husband is the very best and I am ever grateful that he is mine.

So sweet!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome. I too have been with my husband for more than half my life. Last year was that big milestone for me. We started dating really young, so it really didn't take long. I think it's great, though! I really can't imagine my life without Matt.
