New Year's Post

In my New Year's post last year I kind of taunted 2010 to bring it on. Well, 2010 stepped up and smacked me in the mouth so I have learned that lesson. No more taunting the new year. This year I have stolen a thingy from another blog and am posting my answers to it. lease be nice 2011. I am humbled.

1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?

Spend 4 days in the hospital with a sick child. Worst. Thing. Ever!

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Ummm. kind of.... I can't remember what I resolved exactly, but I did lose some weight and I usually resolve to do that. This year I just want to accomplish some of our financial goals once and for all!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Yes! A couple of my cousins and one of my husband's too.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Our neighbors lost their daughter last New Year's Eve. What was first thought to be alcohol related (later tests showed no drugs or alcohol in her system) turned out to be an undiagnosed heart defect. She was a senior in high school who had turned 18 the day before. We were in the hospital with our daughter when we heard the news.
5. What countries did you visit?

ZIP!

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?

A healthy family!

7. What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

There are so many! New Years and 4th of July we were in the hospital.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Paying off over $13,000 in hospital bills without our regular bills suffering. We didn't eat out much or buy anything just for fun, but we were able to make it without late payments to anyone so I consider that a win!

9. What was your biggest failure?

Psychologically I beat myself up for "letting" my daughter get sick enough to be hospitalized. It doesn't pass the logic test, but the guilt I feel when my kids are ill and I can't fix it is often crushing :(

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Luckily I had a fairly healthy year. Just the normal colds and allergies for me. I didn't have time to be sick!!

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Not exactly "bought", but the aforementioned hospital bills and paying them off so quickly made us feel really good about our finances.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

This may not be what the question is asking but I want to (again) thank my pediatrician for her OUTSTANDING treatment of all 3 of the clones. I love having a doctor for them that I feel loves them almost as much as I do.

My husband volunteered to change shifts so I could go back to subbing during the week (to help with the bills) and ended up working weekend nights! It has been a hard switch for all of us but we have done a great job. I think we all deserve some credit for it.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Dangerous question and one I can't answer too thoroughly. I have at times been appalled by a lot of people/things, even at myself.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Trinity Mother Frances Hospital!!

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Going back to subbing. I love that I am able to leave my daughter at home with her dad to play and have fun all day while I go out and bring in a little extra money for the family.

My food blog! It has been so much fun to post and then to hear from friends who are using it to feed their families and even strangers who leave nice comments. It has been a lot of fun for me.

16. What song will always remind you of 2010?

I really don't know! I probably couldn't tell you a song that I knew for sure came out in 2010.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder? Happier since no one is in the hospital
b) thinner or fatter? about the same
c) richer or poorer? I don't like those words...I'm going to say we are in better shape financially

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

I wish we had been able to take our summer vacation. I wish we had been able to go see our families the times we had to cancel for health reasons. I wish there had been no health reasons!

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

This is probably a no-brainer--go to the doctor/hospital!

20. How did you spend Christmas?

At home with the hubby and clones, just the way I like it!

21. Did you fall in love in 2010?

I love that I fall in love more every day with my husband and my kids. Watching them become the people they will be and watching my husband with them fills my heart to bursting.

22. What was your favorite TV program?

I watch them all! Well, no reality shows really. Except Deadliest Catch and Ax Men. I like those a lot. I'm a cop/lawyer show junkie and I like the sciency stuff too.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

I don't "hate" anyone but there are people I just don't like! And a few have made the list this year LOL

24. What was the best book you read?

I read a lot of books. This year I can't think of one I read that blew me out of the water. There was one I read and then came home and added it to my daughter's amazon wishlist. And she got it for Christmas!! I am so happy. It's called Cock-A-Doodle-HOOOO and it is adorbs!!

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?

I don't tend to like "today's" music much!! I guess I love my daughter's developing musical talents. She loves to sing along with her shows and movies and I love it!!
26. What did you want and get?

A new vacuum and a steam mop! LOL

27. What did you want and not get?

There were several trips we planned and did not get to take. Always makes me sad to disappoint the family

28. What was your favorite film of this year?

hmmmmm I'm going with Iron Man 2 We actually saw several movies this year and I enjoyed them all. We have really enjoyed our local drive-in this year.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I turned 34 this year. I subbed a half day in Kindergarten that morning and then my hubby and daughter took me to the park. We had a very fun day!

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

I bet you can guess! HEALTHY PEOPLE IN THE FAMILY!!!!!!!

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?

I have no fashion and I could not care less.

32. What kept you sane?

My family strong behind me, blogging, tasty beer, and knowing that eventually it would have to get better.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

I don't tend to care too much about that sort of thing

34. What political issue stirred you the most?

See #33

35. Who did you miss?

I miss my extended family. I don't like living 4 hours away from them and not getting to see them often enough or for a long enough time when we do get to see them. I miss my brother and his family who live too far away to see on any regular basis.

36. Who was the best new person you met?

I have loved meeting and getting reacquainted with the teachers and staff at our local schools. They are all so wonderful. I feel very lucky that I get to be around them.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.

Hug your children tightly, even if the try to squirm away.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

I can't seem to think of one. We have been looking forward to 2011 as a starting over so maybe a line from Merle Haggard, "If we make it through December we'll be fine."
