Soggy Weekend

Here we go with another last post, but I am trying!! We went camping at the land over MLK weekend. We had planned it out for quite a long time and as it got closer we were pretty disappointed at the look of the weather but we decided to go anyway. My parents came as well, so at least we were together.

We left on Friday after the boys and I got home from school. Jayme had done all the prep work that I usually do and when we got home we found the truck loaded and running with Pattie and the dogs already in! I quickly put a few things in the cooler and off we went.

A quick stop at Fat Dogs for libations and then another stop at Walmart to round out the food supplies had us there just after 7 pm. We have started a new strategy where we shop once we get there for food instead of bringing coolers and stuff. It saves us room and time.

Unfortunately I had started with cold symptoms on Thursday evening and I didn’t feel too great. I bought some OTC cold medicine hoping it would help. Saturday morning I felt AWFUL! I realized after a while that I felt worse after I took the medicine, not better. Once it wore off I felt much better. Add another kind of meds to the long list of things I can’t take!

Mom and Dad arrived Saturday around 1:30 and we chatted and played and watched the near constant light rain. Mom made dinner that night; a delicious meatloaf with boiled red potatoes. Then next morning Mom made breakfast and we watched it rain some more. I was feeling much better and we passed the day with funny stories and short walks when the rain let up.

That evening I made dinner. We had rice with pork roast and black-eyed peas; not bad, if I do say so! We eat pretty well when we camp. During the night on Sunday the rain stopped!!!! Monday morning we were a flurry of activity. Jayme and the boys took off across the creek on a pre-breakfast adventure and I short order cooked breakfast of hashbrowns, fried eggs and sausage patties.

After breakfast we set about cleaning up camp and prepping to leave. We had to leave a few things behind as they were too damp or we didn’t have the room. There was some concern that we wouldn’t be able to get out without help but both vehicles were able to make it out without getting stuck. Anytime I get to spend time with my parents I count it in the win column, so in that respect it was a great trip. I wish I hadn’t been sick. I wish it hadn’t rained so much that Jayme was unhappy with not being able to work. I wish we’d bought more beer at Fat Dogs because there’s only 2 bottles left in my fridge. I hope it won’t be too long until we can do it again.
