First Sub Day of the Year

Last Wednesday as part of our running around town, I dropped by the Pre-K/Kindergarten campus and the 3rd/4th grade campus here in town to let them know I was back on the substitute list Tuesday through Friday every week. From there I headed for the eye doctor to get my contacts prescription renewed (FINALLY!!) and while I was there I had to turn off my cell phone. After that stop, we decided to swing by Applebee's for lunch.** It was about 10 minutes before it opened, so Jayme asked for my phone to call his mom. When he turned my phone back on I had a voicemail message from the Pre-K/K school offering me a sub job on Friday!!
So Friday I was a Kindergarten sub for the day. It was so much fun! It was a little harder than usual because it was just the first week of school. The routines aren't set yet and the rules are still being learned. I did have one little boy who gave me some trouble, but he responded well to being ignored and I can do that! I had another little guy who spent about 30 minutes in the bathroom. I didn't think he would ever come out, then he started calling me. I was thinking to myself, "If this kid asks me to wipe him, I might lose my mind!" But all he needed was a clean pair of undies from his backpack.
The best part of the day was when Clay walked over from the primary school to ride home with me. He got to visit with his teacher from last year and some of the other teachers he knew and liked. Raley was riding over on the bus for teachers' kids but it took so long to arrive, he would have been home if he had gone on his usual bus. Now we know!
I am looking forward to a lot more sub days this school year and I am hoping I will get a chance to sub at the boys' schools too.

** If you are lucky enough to have an Applebee's nearby, try the Grilled Shrimp and Spinach Salad. It is served with a dressing called "Bacon Vinaigrette"...you heard me....BACON!
