ch...ch...ch...changes revisited

So here, we go…the first post after my 100th. I’ve had this blog for over a year now but I didn’t really start posting very much until last year near the end of September. I had just found out that our lives were going to change up a little bit with my husband’s move to a different shift at work. He had been working the weekend day shift which meant he worked Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 6 am to 6 pm. During the rest of the week he was home and I had my name on the substitute teacher list at my boys’ schools and brought in extra money and had a lot of fun. The new schedule meant Jayme would work Tuesday through Friday from 6 am to 4pm. No more subbing for me, but we would have weekends as a family again which would be wonderful after 2 years of never being able to travel during the school year without taking vacation days.

Well, now we are changing again. With Jayme’s recent stay in the hospital, we know we are going to have some hefty medical bills coming up. Plus we are still paying Pattie’s from her bout with pneumonia last winter. Jayme had asked his boss about a possibility of moving back to weekends so that I could sub again. What’s the old saying, “Be careful what you wish for?” Starting the first week of August, Jayme will work the weekend NIGHT shift. His work week starts at 6 pm Saturday evening and ends at 6 am Tuesday morning. As with any change in life there are pros and cons; let’s start with the cons, shall we:

*I have a hard time sleeping when Jayme isn’t here at night. It takes me a while to fall asleep. I guess I will just have to get used to it though.
*No more weekend trips to the land, or our parents’ houses—no trips at all during the school year without taking vacation time.
*I’ll have to keep the clones quiet on Sundays (once school starts it will just be Pattie to keep quiet on Mondays) so Jayme can sleep. This is kind of a pro too though because it gives me a built in reason to take them to the park or the zoo or shopping or something else that means I get special time with them.
*At a minimum, Jayme will be at work for 13 hours each of the three days. He gets to work an hour before the shift starts and usually is there at least a half hour after it ends.

But then there are the pros:
*I can sub again!! Since Raley is starting at new campus, I will put my name in there too so that will be four schools I am listed with and four days a week I am available.
*We will still be able to have “Family Night” on Friday. We can even go to the drive-in. Guys who work the shift told Jayme that they stay up as late as possible on Friday and sleep as much as they can on Saturday to gear up for the weekend.
*No vacation needed to travel at Thanksgiving since he is off during the week anyway.
*We can also travel the week leading up to Christmas if we’d like since Christmas falls on a Saturday this year. (They don’t work on Christmas in any case)

As with any major change in my life, I am excited and sad. I hope it will all work out for the best and we can enjoy our family time. I may not post as often if I am working but I will try my very best to keep everyone updated on our lives. I enjoy blogging so much I will make an effort to keep it up. I can see a lot of delayed publishing in my future! If you haven’t visited the food blog lately take a trip over there. I have been adding a lot of our favorite recipes lately.

  1. Wow... three twelves? That's a rough schedule, but I can see its benefits as well.

I hope the new situation works out for all of you.

  2. Hope it doesn't take too long to adjust...if you ever need somewhere to hang out for a few hours on a Sunday, give us a holler. I work one Sunday a month, but other than that, we are usually home on Sundays. :)
