Not Goodbye...Just See You Later

Out of the many sad goodbyes we have looming on the horizon, we had to make the first one today. This first one though is different from all the others, because it is more of a "See you later" than a true goodbye. Today when Jayme left for Houston and his work week, he took our chickens with him. Happily, though, they are just going to my mo and dad where they will live in happy harmony until we can have them again. There is a big chance, however, that where we end up we won't be able to keep them and if that is the case, then they will have a happy life on the farm with Grannie and Pop.
So we loaded up the coop on a trailer and dubbed the truck the "Chicken Express" for the day.

We had two crates for the girls to ride in. Jayme decided they would ride best in the backseat portion of the truck.

Then it was time to round up the girls for their big trip south! First up was Phoenix:
Then Mary Jane. She is one of our original girls:
Elektra was lucky number 3:
Then sweet Felicia:
She's Pattie's favorite so you can imagine how she was feeling about this:
Jayme grabbed Wanda next. They have always had a speacial, albeit strange bond:
Storm gave us the most trouble but finally even she couldn't run fast enough:
Felicia and Wanda came to us just over two years ago in this same crate:
Everybody else shared the dog crate for the ride:

They settled in pretty quickly and Jayme drove them down to Mom and Daddy's. He had to stop at one point to breathe some fresh air. The girls got a little pungent! Once he got to the farm, it was time to get the new coop ready. Mom and Daddy had bought a 10 by 10 dog pen and put in a floor and built a roof for it.
They have lost hens before to 'coons and 'possums and didn't want to have that happen again. As the plans developed, we realized that this coop needed a name befitting it's impregnability. Thus we have:
FOWLCATRAZ!!!

They look happy, don't you think?
