Garden Update

It's been a while since I let you know how the garden is getting along. It's been two months since planting and we are starting to get some actual homegrown goodness out of it now. Here is how it looks today:
We did have a few things from our original planting that didn't make it. The Sugar Snap Peas, some of the Summer Squash and most of the carrots never came up. But most of it has done very well. Here are individual pics of the rest of it.
The New Zealand Spinach:
It has a very strong flavor but it still yummy.
The Cantalope mound:
We haven't seen any melons forming but they kind of sneak up on you.
The Corn row:
See the silk coming out where the ears will be?
These are the Plum Tomatoes:
We have already gotten several and they are so delicious!
And the Cherry Tomatoes:
There's even a ripe one!
The Summer Squash:
If you look closely you'll see a tiny one growing in there near the lowest leaf.
The Watermelons:
This one is the biggest and there was only one other we could see, until yesterday when I found about 4 more tiny ones forming.
The Cucumbers:
My favorite fresh from the garden fare!
Today's harvest:
Cucumber and Tomato Salad anyone??

Last weekend we started our pumpkin seeds in seed trays on the back porch. We also started some more carrots, acorn squash, butterbut squash and strawberries. This morning I see strawberry and pumpkin seedlings breaking the soil surface...I can almost taste them!! I think we may get some more Fall season seeds ready to plant in another few weeks. I am thinking more squash, spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, onion and some herbs too. When we start getting bigger amounts of things from the garden I will post what we do with them over at Feeding the Chaos, be sure to drop by!

  1. That reminds me of my dad's garden when I was a kid with all that variety (he was a farmer who immigrated and took a factory job, so his garden was his connection to the old country).
