In Other News....

Well, "news" is a little misleading I guess but it got you here!! In any case I have thought and written mostly about our new routines and acclimating to change that I have ignored some other things that are post-worthy (at least in my head and since that is where I live...you get the idea!).
I have put the deposit down on our new granite counter-tops and hopefully I will get a call next week to schedule their installation. The name of the color? grain? whatever is Tuscan Brown. Here is a picture of the sample chunk I have:
Now comes the hard part of finding tile for the backsplash. So I go with a mosaic or a single color? If I go with a single color, which one? ACK!! Also, I have to find a plumber to come out and hook everything back together after the counters are in. There will be a new sink and I bought a new faucet. It's this one:

The sprayer is the end of the faucet and you pull there for the hose to come out. Then there is a soap dispenser on the side. It feels so fancy! I still need to go buy a new garbage disposal and then hope it all fits together with no issues.
I have spent the past several days of pleasant weather weeding all our flowerbeds in the front of the house. We are going to heavily mulch it and hope no more grass and weeds grow through it. We are also planning to remove all the rocks from our path we made last spring and put down some weed stop fabric then replace them. Wish we had done that to begin with but, oh, well! My to do list keeps growing and I haven't crossed anything off yet. No need to panic, right?!
We never had much of a winter (NOT COMPLAINING AT ALL) and it would seem that spring has sprung. Our fruit trees are starting to bloom and the redbuds are showing signs of waking up. Of course, Texas weather is nothing if not tricky. We have never had a white Christmas here but we have had a white Easter! Hopefully that won't happen because a frost now would do more harm than good. As the daylight hours extend and we approach Daylight Savings time change, the neighborhood has come alive with boys. There's a group of about 8 most days and Raley is the oldest while Clay ties for youngest. They get along fairly well, it seems. They like to play Army and War back behind our fence where the little creek runs. One of the other boys who comes over was a student in my Wednesday class from last year and he is so sweet. He likes to play with Pattie and he does anything she tells him to do! The other day he pulled her wagon around the block.
Jayme has often accused me of being a hoarder but I think I have proven him wrong lately. In fact, I have been amazed at how much stuff I have gotten rid of or plan to get rid of prior to moving. When I think about having to move, I just want to lighten the load! I went through my closet and dresser and took two bags to Goodwill and threw out another bag worth. I have already picked out some of the things I will want in the new house and anything new I need to buy I stop and think whether I need it now or if I will still need it later. Take that, Jayme!!
The biggest, best, most exciting news today is that my hubby will be home for the weekend!! In fact, I have taken a cleaning break to have an iced coffee and write this post. My room and bathroom are sparkling clean but the kitchen is up next! Have a great weekend and I'll tell you if anything great happens around here :)
