Yesterday my friend Jana posted a blog about what she did during the day. Her thought was that someday she could use it to prove to her children that she wasn't home watching tv and eating foods she doesn't let them eat. I laughed and thoroughly enjoyed reading her day and it made me curious what a post like that would be from me. So I stole her idea!!
This isn't a "typical" day for me for many reasons. I don't always bake or do the laundry. But I don't think there is such thing as a "typical" day when you have three kids and your husband is working 500 miles from home!!
6:00 am-- Alarm goes off. Listen for sounds of the boys getting up (they have their own alarm) and if they are, hit snooze.
6:20-- Shut off alarm for good and stumble out to the living room to see how the boys are getting along.Turn on computer and check Facebook, e-mail, blogs, etc.
7:00-- Boys out to the bus. Pattie woke up so we snuggled and watched "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" while I drank my first cup of coffee.
7:30-- Made a list of things to pick up at the store. Clean kitchen, start dishwasher. More computer time.
9:00-- Get dressed then dress Pattie. Head to Walmart to buy cleaning products, new allergy meds and ingredients for some breads I was going to bake that day. $80 later...
10:00-- Sort laundry. Start load 1 in washer. Make and drink second cup of coffee.
10:30-- Snuggle with Pattie for a few minutes, play horses and tell her what we needed to do for the rest of the day.
11:00-- Switch laundry in washer to dryer, start load 2. Take new cleaning stuff to my bathroom. Tape gallon ziploc full of vinegar to shower head. I had recently done a deep-clean of my bathroom but ran out of vinegar so this didn't get done. Clean toilet and reapply Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Gel.
11:20-- Head to boys bathroom. *sigh* They "clean" it but every once in a while it needs a deeper job. Today was that day. I don't normally handle this because Jayme does it but he isn't here :( Remove toilet seat ans soak in Scrubbing Bubbles spray in tub. Clean around the base of toilet. Rinse seat and reattach it.
11:40-- Spray tub with Scrubbing Bubbles. Let it soak in. Check Facebook, blow nose (stupid allergies)
12:00-- Lunch. Salad for me, leftover chicken spaghetti for Pattie.
12:20-- Switch laundry, start load 3, fold load 1.
12:30-- Rinse boys tub and scrub sides. Unload dishwasher (normally this is not my job but I wanted to run a cleaning cycle on it) then add cleanser and run again. Put brown rice in steamer for the dogs evening meals.
1:00-- Sit with Pattie and read while she falls asleep. (she doesn't always fall asleep anymore but we always snuggle for a little while in any case) Put her in bed.
1:30-- Switch laundry, start load 4, fold load 2. Core workout and some yoga.
2:00-- My sweet Mommy called me :)
3:00-- Switch laundry, start load 5, fold load 3.
3:10-- Pattie wakes up; snuggle.
3:20-- Go to Ponymaker app on Facebook for Pattie. Make an iced coffee. Start to work on New York Cheesecake Amish Bread.
3:30-- Clay home from school. Go through folder, reading homework, spelling words.
4:00-- Turn to "Maury" for my "YOU ARE NOT THE FATHER" fix. Continue working on bread.
4:10-- Raley home from school. Talk over his day. Remind boys of their chores.
4:30-- Put bread in the oven and clean up kitchen. Switch laundry, fold load 4.
5:00-- Start working on Butter Pecan Amish Bread.
5:25-- Take Cheesecake bread out of oven, put Butter Pecan in. Check Facebook, blow nose, lament building sinus pressure.
5:45-- Take out mini loaves of Butter Pecan bread to cool, clean pans. Go to switch laundry and realize I never started load 6 GRRR!! Start load 6, fold load 5.
6:00-- Beer #1
6:20-- Chip mini loaves out of pan. They are ugly but DELICIOUS!!
6:30-- Put pork roast in oven for dinner (30 minutes late). Put load 6 in dryer and start load 7
6:45-- Start a pot of rice to go with pork.
6:55-- Taste Cheesecake bread and almost die it is so good! Watch "Big Bang Theory" reruns with the boys.
7:20-- Take pork out of oven to discover it isn't done! Put it back in, beer #2.
7:45-- Switch laundry, start load 8 (the last one!!), fold load 6. Finally serve dinner almost an hour after intended.
8:15-- Send boys to get ready for bed. Clean kitchen, store leftovers and breads.
8:37-- Go in boys room to tell them to go to sleep!
8:45-- Watch DVRed "CSI: Miami". Switch laundry, fold load 7.
9:00-- Snuggle with Pattie
9:30-- Pattie in bed. Shower for me, get in bed, read a little of my book (Complete Sherlock Holmes).
10:00-- Set tv timer for 30 minutes and go to sleep.
You know, I am the first one to admit that I am kind of lazy, but seeing it all written out like this has made me think twice. I don't feel like I did anything extra or special yesterday but I really did a lot. Now to go do it all again today :)

Wow! You're busy! My favorite was "4:00-- Turn to "Maury" for my "YOU ARE NOT THE FATHER" fix." Love it!
ReplyDeleteYou've reminded me how badly I need to clean OUR bathroom. And how eagerly I await the day when at least a few of the kids can do at least a few of the icky chores! Once we have the master bathroom done, man, I am not touching their bathroom with a ten foot pole! (Ok, that's a lie, but you know... one day. Dare to dream.)
ReplyDeleteAlso those breads sound amazing!
Also ALSO: I'm glad to see I'm not the only mom who has a drink or two even on a normal day! (I mean, not pregnant, of course, but usually.) Mine would be wine, though. Mmm... miss my wine.
I love that you have so much snuggle time with the wee one! Maybe I'll post a day in the life. Mine is so different!
