As the calendar approached 2012 Jayme was hoping to finally get off the night shift at work. When he started nights he knew it would be 18 months before he could change shifts. He started to put out some feelers to see when he might be able to switch to days and the responses were....perplexing! It didn't look like it would happen for another few months! He learned of an opening for a logistics job at another Target location so he put in an application and took a wait-and-see approach. Then the floodgates seemed to open. He was contacted by a headhunter, and some other feelers were put out. Pretty soon he had several requests for his resume.
The night that Jayme found out it would be six more months before they would move him off nights, the phone rang and it was his good friend Matt. Matt and Jayme were lieutenants together in Germany and have remained very close friends. Matt is a lawyer
That guy was Jayme. Now Matt hadn't heard about Jayme thinking of looking for a new job or having any thoughts of leaving Target at all. The timing was perfect. Jayme went to Houston to meet with the CEO and a few other executives a couple weeks later. They planned to fly him out to a job site so he could see first-hand what the job entailed but thanks to a succession of canceled flights, that didn't pan out. The next week, last week actually, they called him down to make him an offer.
Suffice it to say, it was an offer he couldn't refuse. Significant raise in salary, lots of wonderful perks and benefits included and perhaps the best part: the company is headquartered in Houston. Almost ALL of our family on either side is in Houston! We would FINALLY get to live near our families!!
It's going to be sad to move from our sweet little town, don't get me wrong. We have wonderful neighbors and great friends here. Having family nearby will be such a great thing though. Jayme will have to travel quite a bit for work so for the next few months, the kids and I will stay put. We'll let the boys finish out the school year and put the house on the market in late May/early June.
So the next couple months will find me pouring over real estate websites, trying to figure out where we want to look for a house. There's a chance we'll try to live in my hometown, where my parents and Jayme's step-mom live. We may need to live a little closer to Jayme's office though. I am hoping for a more rural setting, like we have here. Jayme, being a reformed city-boy is pushing for a bigger area, closer in to Houston itself. We'll see!
Because the new job will have Jayme out of town during the week, I had to take my name off the substitute teacher list. That's kind of a bummer. I liked bringing in a little bit of money for extra things and I loved the kids. This will give Pattie and I a lot of time together and I can get back to blogging with some regularity. I hope you'll keep reading :)

Oh I'm so happy for you guys! How awesome!
