Not So Random Ranting

I know today is Tuesday so I should be randomizing my life, but I have this rant building up inside me that may explode and harm innocent bystanders if I don't get it out soon. My target today is Disney.
I have two very boyish boys who love superheroes and action and adventure. They like Pixar movies but most of the drawn animation Disney movies they could live without. We have them on DVD simply because I love them so much. Since Pattie was born I have been able to get both "Tinkerbell" movies that have come out (cute!!), "Sleeping Beauty" when it was released and also "Snow White" but Pattie has just now shown interest in watching them. He favorite is "Beauty and the Beast" which we had on DVD as a copy from someone else. That disk has long since worn out from too much love by a 2 year old girl. Luckily I remembered that my mom had it on VHS and we still have a VHS player, so the last time we went home to visit I dug around and found Mom's tape. I also came across a tape of "Cinderella" so I got that one too. Since then we have watched either one or both at least once a day. Recently I remembered my neighbor had once lent me her VHS tape of "The Little Mermaid" so I asked if she still had it and she did so we have borrowed that and watch it every day as well.
WHY DOES DISNEY NOT HAVE THESE MOVIES AVAILABLE ON DVD ALL THE TIME???????? I know the answer is that they make a ton of money when they do release them "for a limited time only before the go back into the vault for another 10 years" or whatever but COME ON!! I contend that they would still make a ton of money if they were always available. There are thousands of little girls born every year. Some of them are only children or the youngest and only girl (like mine) so they are born into a family with no Princess DVDs. Is it really fair that they have to wait years to become acquainted with these movies? They are very rarely shown on TV anymore and even though someone may have them on VHS, not many households have a VHS player anymore.
I have noticed though when I look on amazon.com or somewhere to see if they are for sale that you can find the sequels to such movies all the time. What good does a sequel do me though? Yes, the princess movies and all their product tie-ins are a very big sale item for Disney, I have no doubt, but we are talking about a company that just acquired Marvel Comics for $4 BILLION! And so help me if they start that crap with Spiderman and the X-Men, I just might blow a fuse.
I feel a little better, but what would really make me feel good is if some of you leave comments telling me you agree (but only if you really do), and if you come on over to my recipe blog where I posted last night's fabulous dinner recipe!

  1. You could always check store shelves... I know sometimes you can find a DVD copy of a "vaulted" movie in the alphabetical section of music stores.
