I feel like it has been forever since I posted last but a lot has been going on in the past week and I wanted to get through it before writing about it. Does that make sense?
We had a great time watching the Super Bowl this year. For once the game was better than the commercials, but given the particularly crappy array of commercials that isn't saying much. We never expected the Saints to win although we were rooting for them. It was pretty exciting. I made nachos for dinner and they were yummy. I hadn't tried that before so I was nervous. Jayme and the boys tore into them and all I heard was happy crunching; a sure sign that food is being enjoyed in this house.
Monday Nana (Jayme's Mom) came up to help out with the boys on Tuesday morning (more on that later). I made chicken enchiladas for dinner and she asked me for the recipe so, YAY ME!! I always enjoy it when I cook for people who are great cooks themselves and they like what I have made.
You know when you live with something it just becomes "normal" and you don't really think about it? Then you have company? Sheesh!! I felt like I kept saying to Nana, "Oh, sorry ___________ is broken so we do __________ instead." Things like: our front door knob, the mouse for the laptop (which I replaced just now), our garage door...not to mention the giant hole in the hall wall where the baby gate used to be, and the torn up spots in the linoleum in the boys bathroom where we looked at how it was laid down to see how hard it would be to take up and replace with tiles...someday. *sigh*
Monday night was one of the longest and most horrible I have had in a long time. Pattie was a little congested so she slept like crap and I was trying to keep her from waking up the entire house. I finally gave up and stayed with her out on the couch. Oh, and then there was the great fun of not being able to give her any milk after about 3:30 in the morning so she wouldn't have problems with the anaesthesia Tuesday morning. No 2 year old could possibly understand that concept. Nothing makes you feel like a bad mom more than denying your child something they are asking so sweetly for.
Tuesday morning finally arrived and we took Pattie in for her ear tube surgery. It feels very strange to call such a fast, simple procedure "surgery" but evidently it qualifies (I guess because they have to be under for it). She was in and out and after she woke up and drank something, they let us go home. She slept for a while once we were back and then she woke up and played and has shown no signs of any distress or problems. We weren't able to get a good assessment of how it will affect her sleep issues last night because she is still congested and waking up from that.
Nana had intended to stay until Thursday but the weather is supposed to turn pretty ugly and after she had to drive up here in non-stop nasty rain, we fully understood her decision to go home a day early. She left this morning and Pattie and I went down to Tyler to buy Valentine presents.
We had been planning a camping trip for this weekend but with all the rain and nastiness is looks like it is being cancelled. Hopefully my parents can meet us for the day at least.
Now that we are all caught up, I am going to go enjoy some time with my sweet girl and hope she lets me doze (although the quad Venti Extra Caramel Caramel Machiatto I just drank may have other plans for me). That's my chaos report for now!
