For those of you who don't know, December 6th is St Nicholas Day. Mostly celebrated in European countries, St. Nicholas brings little gifts to children. He leaves them in your shoes. When we lived in Germany it was a pretty big deal. In any case, St. Nicholas and his works is the accepted origin of the Santa Claus legend. Last night, we got a little visit!
There is a church here that does a really cool thing, The Mobile Santa. I think they said it's the third year, they have done it. They outfit a small towable trailer with Santa's house. Then a nice couple dresses up as Santa and Mrs. Claus and they ride around to different neighborhoods and the kids who live there can go down, visit with Santa and get a little treat. We missed it last year, but this year we were ready.
We knew what day but not what time the Mobile Santa would show up right in front of our neighbor's house. So we waited. Clay had to go to a school meeting and I worried he would miss out but by the time he got home, Santa hadn't come yet. Then Pattie fell asleep on the couch. I figured we would just have to skip it and go somewhere to see Santa another day. Our sweet neighbor Karen, kept texting us telling us it was coming and Clay was so sad, that we let him get dressed (he was already in bed) and woke Pattie up. I was afraid she would be grouchy but as soon as I said, "Santa" her eyes popped open and she was ready to go!
There were all the other kids from the neighborhood waiting outside when we got out there. Pattie happened to be first in line to go in and see Santa.
She went inside, ran into Santa's arms and would have stayed all night if she could have. It couldn't have been more perfect!!
Clay was next and he was sure to tell Santa what he wanted!
Afterwards we waited for all the other kids to get through and talked to our neighbors and drank hot chocolate. Even though it was 38 degrees we just couldn't go back home until Santa left. Our sweet neighbor, Misty, took this great picture of us:
The pictures the Mobile Santa photographer took turned out so cute!
