Today is My birthday!!

When I was born, my mom was 27 years old. My parents already had a little boy (my big brother Michael) who had just turned 5 and started Kindergarten. There was a rare weather event the day I was born. A typhoon named Katherine was moving through San Diego. From what I’ve read it would seem that a typhoon is the West coast equivalent of a hurricane. My mom remembers that she was the oldest woman on the labor and delivery floor that day. She didn’t have a room but rather the women were in a long ward. When she walked to the nursery to see me, there were only two bassinets with babies in them. The one with her name on it held a rather ugly, large boy baby and she started to panic as she distinctly remembered giving birth to a pretty little girl. As she lifted the baby out of the bassinet a large, ugly woman came up to her, ripped the baby away and said, “That’s my baby!” The way Mom tells the story, she thought to herself “Thank GOD!” Then she went to the last bassinet where her pretty little girl was. Say it with me now, “AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!”

When I was a little girl, my life revolved around horses. The horse in the picture above is Dixie, my second mother. I was 3 years old when we got her, she was 16. She and I were together almost every day. When she turned 30 we “retired” her from being ridden with any regularity and let her live out her days as a lady of leisure. She lived to be 38 years old and is buried in the pasture at Mom and Dad’s.

When I was 17 I met Jayme. We were seniors in high school. We started dating in November 1993 and have been together ever since.

Jayme proposed to me on my birthday in 1995. I was 19 years old. We were married two weeks before I turned 21.

May 2000

I found out I was pregnant with Raley on my birthday in 1999. I was 23 years old.

September 2003

Clay was due the day before I turned 27. He was born 2 days after.

September 2007

We started trying for Pattie on my birthday in 2006. She was born 2 weeks before I turned 31.

This year I am celebrating the 5th anniversary of my 29th birthday. I share a birthday with Tommy Lee Jones, Dan Marino, Prince Harry, Agatha Christie, and Roy Acuff among others.
