Random Tuesday

I'm trying this on for size today! Thanks to BloggingMamaAndrea for the idea and the button. AND for this little tidbit of random knowledge: The Cincinnati airport is located in Kentucky.

I had so many blog ideas for the Christmas/New Year corridor that I didn't use because of the all the sick around here. Now they would seem silly, so you'll just have to wait until next year for my photoblog of the Christmas treats we made, details of our favorite gifts given and received, and the play-by-play of our visits to family. It's okay to cry...I'll wait a minute.....ready? Good!

We had to start buying Senior food for our dog. He's almost 8 years old. It was kind of sad the first time we bought it but his health has improved so dramatically that we feel good about it now. He has been gray on his muzzle since he was 2 so I guess he doesn't mind. We also stopped feeding him the wet dog food. Instead I buy the Ready to Serve pots of Minute Rice Brown Rice. They come in 2 packs and each pack has a coupon inside that works out to be getting one for almost free. We put half of a pot on his food and he INHALES it, so...SCORE!

Speaking of dogs, those of you who know me in real life know about Tufaan our part-time dog. We have a very good friend who works with Jayme and he is going to school at U of H during the week. Since that is 4 hours away, he lets us keep his dog Tuesday-Friday most weeks, an arrangement which we all enjoy immensely. As his owner returns from Houston he stops off somewhere and brings us beer and wine to thank us for our shared custody arrangement. Tufaan is a strange little guy. He was adopted from a shelter in the Austin area and is quite obviously of pit bull descent but not full blooded. Our best guess is lab/pit. He isn't very bright but he is very sweet so that makes up for it. If he can't get close enough to you to lick you, he will lick the air around you instead. And he prefers ice cubes to dog treats.

Speaking of ice, it has gotten cold again here. Last week we enjoyed temps in the upper 60s and lower 70s, if you can believe it. This morning we are back to 33 degrees. Not that I mind since I will be inside doing laundry all day. The only real problem the freezing temps bring us is the dilemma of the frozen chicken water. We have 7 chickens in our backyard. When their water container freezes we have to bring it inside and run hot water over it in the bathtub to melt the ice, then we fill it with hot water so it will stay liquid a little longer. I'm always worried they will burn their throats drinking the hot water though.

Speaking of drinking hot stuff, I am furious not to be able to find any more Peppermint Mocha Coffeemate! It is supposed to be available year-round now but no one seems to carry it right now. Of course the only store choices I have are Brookshire's and Walmart.

Speaking of Walmart, I had another "ARGH!!!!!!! I HATE YOU!" moment the other day. I was out and about in Tyler so I went to a different Walmart along the way instead of the one here in town. The Walmart I went to is no more than 15 miles from mine and yet I found these price discrepancies:
Our Walmart:
gallon of 2% milk=$3.55
Other Walmart:
gallon of 2% milk=$2.98
Our Walmart:
2 pack of 1/2 gallons of Silk Soymilk=$5.52
Other Walmart:
2 pack of 1/2 gallons of Silk Soymilk=$4.68
WHY?????????????

Speaking of Silk Soymilk, we have switched Pattie over to that instead of regular milk because drinking so much milk while she was sick and had no appetite was what caused the anemia issues that we discovered while she was in the hospital. Soy milk has some iron in it which will help her out. So far so good with it. We had to switch her over gradually like you do when switching over from breastmilk to formula, or from formula to milk. She did not like the vanilla or chocolate versions at all but she drinks the plain okay. Now if we can just get her to eat some leafy greens...but that's a whole nuther post!

  1. I'm so sorry your baby has been so sick! I am constantly grateful any time we get through a winter without any major illnesses... it's so easy for a little thing to turn into a month-long battle of misery! Big hugs and healthy thoughts!
