Well, folks, so far 2010 can kiss my ass! We have been in the hospital with Pattie since New Year's Eve and there is no definite end in sight. She has pneumonia and she is just about as sick as I can handle.
We also found out that our sweet neighbors across the street have suffered an unimaginable tragedy. On New Year's Eve their beautiful sweet daughter who was a senior in high school told them she was going to a friend's house. Well, she didn't. She went to a party and got drunk and passed out and never woke up. She died from alcohol poisoning after what was probably the first time she ever got drunk. Jayme saw her Dad, who works he works with at Target, outside and walked over to offer our condolences. All Mark could say was, "Jayme, she lied to us." Five words that conveyed all the heartache and regret a parent could possibly feel.
Hug your children, folks. Hug them tight and when they struggle to get out of your grip, hug them tighter. Then tell them not to drink until they are legal and NEVER to drink too much. The alternative is just too awful.

Jeez. I hope your daughter gets better soon. Hospital stays can wear you down quickly.
ReplyDeleteAnd the other story? Holy crap. I don't even have words.
What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger!
ReplyDeleteRight on about the telling them not to drink. Never, never, under any circumstances, will I tell my children about my dangerous youthful indiscretions. The same thing (high school senior succumbing to alcohol poisoning) happened here in my small town. So sorry for your neighbors' loss.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh... So sorry about both of these suck fests. That last thing, wow. I can't even imagine.
ReplyDeleteOH I am sorry to hear that. I hope Pattie gets better soon and so sorry to hear about your neighbors. That must be awful to loose a child like that especially when she was so close to finishing high school and starting her life.
ReplyDeleteIt is a crappy year so far! That is all so sad. I'll be praying for your daughter and also your neighbors. I cannot imagine the horror.
