Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator

Jayme has been in class all week, taking steps to become a certified Project Manager and as part of the class yesterday, they took a short version of the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator. The last time he took it was in college and it was about 100 questions back then. This one was much easier and streamlined with only 31 questions. He thought it would be interesting for Raley and I to take it and Clay wanted in on the act as well. We got a big kick out of the results and found them to be pretty accurate. Here's the run-down:

Jayme scored as an ESTP personality. Famous people with this personality type include Ernest Hemingway, Donald Trump and Chuck Yeager. Fictional characters include James Bond, Bart Simpson (The Simpsons) and Fred and George Weasley (Harry Potter). The major characteristics of this type are:

  • Action-oriented
  • Lives in the present
  • Impulsive
  • Adaptable and resourceful
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Observant with a strong memory for details

Raley scored as an INTP personality. Famous people with this personality type include Albert Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin. Fictional characters include Sherlock Holmes, Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter) and Data (Star Trek: The Next Generation). The major characteristics of this type are:

  • Quiet, reserved and thoughtful
  • Enjoys theoretical thinking
  • Tends to be flexible and tolerant
  • Highly logical and objective
  • Good at thinking "outside of the box"

Clay scored as an ENFP personality. Famous people with this personality type include Bob Dylan, Dr. Seuss and Charles Dickens. No fictional characters were listed for this one. The major characteristics of this type are:

  • Warm and enthusiastic

I scored as an ISFJ personality. Famous people with this personality type include Mother Teresa, Queen Elizabeth II and Robert E. Lee. Fictional characters include Dr. Watson (Sherlock Holmes), Ophelia (Hamlet) and David Copperfield (David Copperfield). The major characteristics of this type are:

  • Reliable, stable and down-to-earth
  • Enjoys order and structure
  • Dislikes conflict and confrontation
  • Kind, warm-hearted and considerate
  • Practical-minded
  • Likes concrete information
  • Very aware of other people’s feelings
  • Has a great memory for detail
The links for each type have a lot more information and lengthy descriptions as well as jobs that each type would excel in.
I wasn't sure Clay's results would be very accurate since he didn't understand some of the questions but after reading it, I think he did okay. I love that his type is referred to as "The Champion" as I think that fits him very well.
I don't think I am the only one who would feel that Dr. Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory) would be a good fit in Raley's type. If an artificial life form made the list, surely he would too!
James Bond being on Jayme's list made me laugh. I think it has to do with the charm and charisma. He can talk to anyone and fit in anywhere.
I was a little surprised to see that they didn't just go ahead and put Stay-At-Home-Mom on the job list for my type but they did include childcare provider so I guess that's as close and we'll get.
There were a couple individual characteristics for each type that we found to be off from our thinking of ourselves but it was an enlightening evening, to say the least.

  1. Interesting! I think it's funny that Raley's personality matches Sherlock Holmes while yours matches Dr. Watson.
