The Great Room Redo--Girl Edition

In the course of redoing the boys' room, we had a lot of thoughts regarding Pattie's room too. The biggest obstacle for her room was going to be her closet. In the before times, her room was a guest room.office. Her closet has always been the black pit of doom place where we stuck things that had not other home or couldn't be dealt with at the moment. Other than her shirts and dresses hanging there, the entire space was filled with gift wrapping stuff, outgrown clothes, and all the boys' schoolwork since Raley was in 2nd grade. I am ashamed! It's awful to think how long I let that go to end up throwing MOST of it away! Anyhoo.......I started there.
Actually, I started here:

*sigh* Yep! There it is in all it's glory. Unfortunately, some of the stuff in the picture lived on the floor anyway and it was a big cause of trouble because she couldn't really clean it up herself with that stuff in the way. Once her closet was cleared out I was able to put a lot of things in there on the floor. Things like the Little People playsets and the box full of babydolls.

Her closet is pretty tiny and there really isn't room enough for a shelf system like he put in the boys' closet. So we use the Wonder Hanger system instead. After the closet was settled I went through some of her toys while she was otherwise occupied. Pretty soon her room looked like this:

See the big thing of gift bags in the front? Cool sidebar: I used one of the boys' old plastic dressers from their closet to store all the bags by occasion and it is now out in the garage, bothering NO ONE!
Raley was actually helping me with Pattie's room and I could not have done it without him. Clay was helping too by keeping Pattie out so we could sneak things to the donate or trash piles that we set up in my room. When it was all said and done, we had this to show for it:

The white plastic crates on the wall are the ones Jayme had in college! They were up like this in the boys' room for a long time too. It is a great way to store their stuffed animals. Much better than all over the bed like they used to be. It made changing the sheets a nightmare. Her kitchen is ready for play and all her cubbies are accessible with no large items on the floor in front of them.

I got a new jewelry box so I gave her this wooden storage thingy I have had for about 14 years now. She immediately loaded it up with all her necklaces and such and in doing so, she freed up a whole
cubby! Way to go baby girl :) She was pleased with herself and her shiny clean abode.

She wanted her How to Train Your Dragon sheets on first. I let her pick out a few stuffed animals to sleep with and we change them out when she wants to. If we get something down, something else has to go up.

Hiccup and Toothless approve and watch over things for us...

Not sure exactly what Superboy and the Invisible Woman have going on in the kitchen though....

And don't even ASK about what happens in the Barbie cubby.....

The best thing is, just like the boys, she has been keeping it pretty clean all by herself. She has enough cubbies that things can be pretty specifically separated and she can figure out where they go. We may have to reconfigure some after her birthday this week, but there are some empty spots waiting for new things. We are calling the kids' room redos a SUCCESS!
