So I have been hinting around on Facebook lately that we had something big in the works that we'd be announcing soon. Well, the time has come! Back in March while we were on spring break, we reconnected with some wonderful friends from our Army days, Matt and Ann. We had kept in touch but not seen each other in person in many years due to distance. Well, they were in San Antonio so we made sure to see them while we were in town. We had a blast! And we met their sweet dogs. We talked about how we were looking at getting another dog in the summer.
Fast forward to May and we got a message from them asking if we had gotten another dog yet. We hadn't. They offered us one of theirs. We were thrilled! We made plans to pick her up and now we are proud to present the newest resident of Chaosville: Ginevra Virginia Aurora Ophelia Athena Valeria Willa Waldron-Sims...but you can call her Ginny
Why such a long name? Allow me to explain. Our dog Luke is actually Lucas Maximus Decimus Meridius Stinkicus Blackicus Leviticus Deuteronomy Sims. It has a long story that I'll save for some other time. In any case, we felt Ginny should have a big name too. I tried to make one that sounded like Luke's but it just wasn't working for me. So I went with names that would give the Ginny nickname. Immediately Virginia came to mind but it's not a name I'm crazy about. Then I remembered Ginny Weasley from Harry Potter fame. Her real name is Ginevra. From there it was easy:
Ginevra--Ginny Weasley's real name
Virginia--another Ginny name
Aurora--Sleeping Beauty's real name, for Pattie
Ophelia--From Hamlet, for me
Athena--Greek goddess, for the boys
Valeria--From the movie Conan the Barbarian, for Jayme and Matt
Willa--Ann's favorite author Willa Cather
Waldron-Sims--shows she's a bit of a feminist but also pays homage to both her families
She is settling in and having fun with her new family. The best part is, we will still get a lot of chances to spend time with her other family because they are moving from San Antonio to Houston so they will be 2 hours closer to us! And with all our family being in the Houston area, we get there more often than anywhere else.
Here's a picture of Ginny with her brothers, Shooter and Ozzy before we headed back home with her
She's an awesome traveller and settled in the truck right away with Luke.
She didn't sleep the whole time though. She likes to enjoy the scenery some.
Once we got home she ran around the backyard sniffing and smelling everything. We are working on her around the chickens and for now, are keeping them totally separated. She is super smart and we don't think it will take her long to understand that "Chickens are friends, not food!"
She and Luke do really well on the tandem leash.
They are just about the same size too.
Her favorite place to be is right with us so when the kids wanted to ride bikes after we walked the dogs, she was content to hang out and watch.
The noise and bustle didn't bother her at all.
We have to keep an eye on them during dinner and breakfast, Luke is a slow eater and when Ginny finishes, she wants to check out what's in his bowl.
She is adapting quite nicely to life in Chaosville. I think she's going to fit in just fine.
There is a Part 2 to the news. We didn't go all the way to San Antonio just for Ginny (although we would have) her owners had something else they wanted to give us. Believe me when I say their generosity is overwhelming! Here's a sneak peek, but I am not going to post anything more until it's a bit more organized...
