Well, it's gone! The 4 day weekend we were so excited about has come and gone and we DID go camping! And everyone that said they were going to come did come! And if only the weather had cooperated it would have been AMAZING!
I guess I shouldn't complain. As far as our trips go, we didn't really have anything BAD happen. It was nothing like the infamous Galveston trip in 2007 when we all had a stomach bug and were stuck in the trailer for three days. There was no trip to the local ER like our Spring Break in Arkansas (I'll have to post that write up for those of you who missed it). There was no fire, no injuries, no REAL drama...
And yet, I feel unfulfilled. I wanted it to be perfect. You see, while I have grown up camping at our land (we bought it from my grandparents, and my parents own the adjoining piece), and Jayme practically married me for it (it's one of the ways I know he will NEVER leave me...lol), no one in Jayme's family had ever been there other than his Mom (very briefly 3 summers ago) and his step-mom who spent the night with us once at Thanksgiving. He has worked very hard on it and has wanted them to come see it for a long time. So it was all set, his mom and step-dad (Nana and Papa) were coming along with his brother Rex's wife (the wonderful, amazing Erika, sister-in-law extraordinaire) and two kids. Of course my parents were coming too.
We got there Friday morning and my parents arrived around 3 that afternoon. Erika and the kids arrived just after 8 pm and we all settled in for the night. The next morning we had a nice cup of coffee around the campfire, and went for a long walk on the other side of the creek. We found a little turtle in the big meadow and Erika showed us how vegetarians hunt (she jabbed a mushroom with her walking stick...maybe you had to be there, but it was hilarious!!). The weather was awesome, we were having a ball. The cousins were playing and the dogs were rolling in the pine needles. Jayme got a text from Nana and Papa; they were just one town away and...IT WAS RAINING!!
UN-EFFING-BELIEVABLE
The rain followed them in and with a couple momentary exceptions, it...never...quit! We were going to sleep in tents that night. The kids are rowdy and loud so they were going in their own tent with the exception of Pattie who would sleep with Jayme and I in our tent. Erika was going to luxuriate in her own tent and my folks had slept in their Taj Mahal tent the night before too. When the rain kept coming down I told the kids that they would have to sleep in the trailer. Their tent had a rain fly, but I was dubious about its abilities to hold up much longer and the last thing I wanted to hear at 3 in the morning would be "Mommy, our tent is wet!" So Jayme took our things to our tent and we went to make ready for bed. Our tent had a tarp over the top of it and should have been dry. Did you catch that, "should have been"? I stepped inside and something went "splash". GREAT!! So after a little scrambling around and a minor fit over not letting anyone go to a hotel in town, we discovered that our trailer can indeed sleep 10 people, provided that half of them are kids. The next morning, it stopped raining just long enough for us to cook breakfast which is a good thing because we were cooking most of it on the camp stove outside. We put the little tikes picnic table inside Erika's tent which was the only one that was dry (other than Mom and Dad's) and the 4 big kids ate in there while the adults and Miss Pattie ate in the trailer. I will say that breakfast was DEELISH!! While the womenfolk were busy cooking, the men and the kids were...shooting all the guns!!
Erika and I didn't think that was fair so we made sure to get our turn after breakfast was over. It never did stop drizzling rain, so Nana and Papa packed up and left, followed shortly by Erika and the kids.
Mom and Dad were staying another night with us so we moved their beds into the trailer and it did stop raining for a while that afternoon. With nothing else to do, we hooked up the laptop and watched movies. Dad told us the next morning he had hard time being quiet when the last movie ended and he looked over at Pattie's bed. Jayme was asleep on it facing one direction and I was asleep facing the other way. Meanwhile, Pattie was asleep on a pillow on the floor.
We had a continental breakfast the next morning and took another nice walk. We also played a little "CSI" digging bullets out of the trees. We found a nice .38 that was only slightly flattened on the tip and I found one laying on the ground that was fairly pristine. Dad dug several .22 fragments out of the trees and the boys each had some treasure to remember the day by.
We ended up leaving out tents and Erika's to dry out. We left the trailer too. We had planned on that since we are going back next weekend, but even if we hadn't planned it, I'm not sure we would have been able to get it out with as damp as the ground had gotten. Hopefully this week will be a dry one and we won't have to call the neighbors to get us unstuck with their tractor...again.

Sounds like you guys had fun despite the rain. And I know your folks had a blast seeing your kiddos!
