Camping trip

This past weekend, my family and I went camping at our land in East Texas. The added bonus was that my parents were there too. Without a doubt, my kids have the greatest grandparents in the world.
On our last trip, Pattie was in a "I hate everyone" stage and it nearly broke my Mom's heart. This time was awesome. Pattie latched on to both of them and was saying her version of "Grannie" and "Pop" in no time.
We were in tents this time, probably for the last time until cool weather comes back in the fall. It has been a long time since we tent camped and I am spoiled by my trailer!! As much as I enjoy camping at our land, I have been afraid there at night for my whole life. It probably has something to do with my brother teasing me about the sounds of the forest (That's a werewolf! Hear that vampire?).
In any case the only "incident" was when I asked Jayme to move our port-a-potty into the tent for me on the second night. I had asked him earlier to empty it and start a new one because it was getting full...he refused...so when I asked him to put it in the tent he said , "No, it smells." Long story short, we had an uncomfortable argument in front of everyone and I ended up doing it myself. See, he thinks I am ridiculous for being afraid at night. I just refuse to go outside to use the potty even if it is right outside the tent door. Too bad for him, I can't help it!! Blame my brother!
The weather was awesome (one little shower during the first night, but it did not hurt anything). My parents had a brand new tent that we nicknamed the Taj Mahal. It's enormous!!! But it was fairly easy to set up given its size and with three dogs, they need lots of room. The boys slept in Jayme's Tent Cot which was a Christmas present from my folks. They are getting a little big but neither one wants to give it up. That left Pattie and Luke (the dog) in the tent with us. It was a little tight, but we made it work. Pattie slept great, so I can't really complain.
Another big hit with the kids was the hammock we bought for Dad last Father's Day. He set it up, but I think he only was able to get in it for a couple minutes. The boys and Pattie took it over. Pattie even napped in it on Sunday.
The hardest part about leaving (other than packing all our stuff) is always saying goodbye to my folks. This time it wasn't as hard as usual because we had a definite date we would see them again and it is only three weeks away when the kids and I go to Crosby for my cousin Kristen's wedding. Should be lots of fun!
